Don’t you just love it when the progressive left’s obsession with intersectionality and victimhood causes them to eat their own? It might sound like I’m engaging in schadenfreude, but I can assure you that this is not the case. It’s not that we want to see progressives on the receiving end of the social justice warriors’ outrage campaign, but there is always a part of us that thinks “Do you see now? Do you see how insane your compatriots can be?”

The recent story about Meghan Murphy, founder of the Feminist Current website and podcast gives us a prime example of far left’s willingness to ruthlessly attack anyone who fails to fall in line with their intersectional agenda, even if the individual is one of their own. At least we know they are equal opportunity with their lunacy, right?

Feminist Booted Off Twitter

Last week, Twitter suspended Murphy for daring to post tweets critical of the transgender movement. Her point of contention was the movement’s disproportionate sociopolitical influence in her home country of Canada.

Last year, Murphy testified in front of the Canadian Senate, arguing against the C-16 pronoun legislation mandating that Canadians use the correct pronouns when discussing transgender individuals. She argued that “the rights of women and girls are being pushed aside to accommodate a trend,” and that “treating gender as though it is either internal or a personal choice is dangerous and completely misunderstands how and why women are oppressed under patriarchy as a class of people.”

In August, Twitter locked Murphy’s account when she posted a series of tweets criticizing Lisa Kreut, a transgender individual, who allegedly “targeted Feminist Current’s ad revenue and led efforts to have Vancouver Rape Relief blacklisted at the 2016 BCFED Convention.”

The activist was forced to delete the tweet before her account could be reinstated. Later in the year, she posted some tweets stating that “Men aren’t women,” and “How are transwomen not men? What is the difference between men and transwomen?”

In November, Twitter warned Murphy about other tweets that apparently violated their “hateful conduct” rules.

Murphy Strikes Back

Murphy was notified by Twitter on November 15 that her tweets had once again violated the company’s “hateful conduct” rules. It seems that this was the final straw. Murphy took to Twitter and wrote:

“This is f**king bulls*** @twitter. I’m not allowed to say that men aren’t women or ask questions about the notion of transgenderism at all anymore? That a multi billion dollar company is censoring BASIC FACTS and silencing people who ask questions about this dogma is INSANE.”

Later, she informed her followers that she had been locked out of her account for complaining about being targeted for her tweets stating that men aren’t women. She also indicated that her views had been changed by the whole fiasco:

“In any case, I would like to announce that I’ve changed my mind about some things. Brace yourselves. I am tired of the ‘right=bad’/’left=good’ dichotomy. Things are not as simple as that. It’s not ‘good’ to limit ourselves to engaging only with those we already agree with. It is intellectually boring and will not encourage the development of good, coherent, evidence-based ideas, politics, and policies.”

Murphy also acknowledged that right-leaning media has been the only media to reach out to her about her battle with Twitter. “Mainstream, liberal, progressive media continues to refuse to even acknowledge that feminists have a critique of transgender ideology,” she wrote.

Then, she excoriated the left for choosing to remain stuck in their echo chambers and refusing to engage in civil discourse with those who espouse opposing beliefs:

“The left, on the other hand, wants an echo chamber. It’s not only boring, but it’s unproductive. How tf are you going to get anywhere by ignoring what so many in the world think and believe? Or by simply vilifying those who don’t toe the line?”

Will The Progressive Left Continue To Alienate?

Many left-leaning Americans have now rejected the left; not necessarily because they are becoming conservatives, but because the antics of the far-left progressives are alienating many who are left of center. Murphy has stated that she doesn’t intend to join the right, but she has certainly become disenchanted with growing extremism on the left.

In an interview with The Daily Wire, Murphy lamented the fact that a small minority of people have the power to shut down their critics on social media:

“The amount of power that trans activists have over public debate is incredible and kind of scary. It’s just a few people. There are a few people who have connections to Twitter or work for Twitter who are either trans themselves or allied with this movement who are just dictating these rules.”

Is it possible that more people on the left are finally becoming aware of what is happening to their movement? The success of the #WalkAway movement indicates that such an awakening might be happening. This campaign has seen many Americans from different walks of life flee the left. These include racial minorities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and feminists.

We all know that not everyone on the left approves of how some of their fellow leftists are behaving. The increasing radicalization of many progressives presents an opportunity for conservatives to reach more people, especially those who are becoming fed up with the far left’s antics. While the legacy media will never examine this issue, a recent study has shown that the majority of Americans both on the left and the right are not extreme in their beliefs.

If conservatives reach out to these disaffected individuals, they might find that these are people who are open to conservative ideas. We may not win them all over, but there will certainly be some who are willing to be persuaded. Who knows? Maybe even Murphy will come around!
