For most, the use of violence against political opponents is morally verboten. The majority of Americans would not condone throwing a punch at someone over a political disagreement. Unfortunately, far-left progressives are not normal people.

video surfaced last week in which a male feminist physically assaulted a woman on the streets of Toronto. The man – identified as Jordan Hunt – was captured on film by Marie-Claire Bissonette, a female pro-life activist attending a political rally. Hunt took issue with Bissonette’s stance on abortion, and a few seconds into their debate, he launched a roundhouse kick at the female activist. As onlookers castigated him for kicking Bissonette, Hunt claimed he was merely trying to kick the phone out of her hand. He has been charged with eight counts of assault and seven counts of mischief, plus one count of assault from a previous incident, according to Toronto police.

This is just the latest act of political violence. Over the past two years, the far left has embraced violence as a political tool – a means to achieve their desired end. But how do these individuals justify such behavior?

Victimhood Justifies Violence

While leftists give a myriad of excuses, the most prevalent is that they are fighting against evil oppressors who live on the backs of everyday Americans. This imagined reality enables them to engage in the worst types of behavior without an ounce of guilt. In their minds, victimhood covers a multitude of sins.

Far left progressives view the world through the prism of the oppressed and their oppressors. It is one of the foundational tenets of Marxism. To them, members of the elite wealthy class – AKA white Christians – deserve the violence inflicted for embracing political views that are not sufficiently leftist. In their minds, conservatism is the philosophy of malicious individuals who seek to dominate society.

At the root of far leftist ideology is the idea of revolution. In his writings, Marx repeatedly argued for the necessity of a violent uprising, in which the non-privileged class throws off the yoke of oppression by targeting the wealthy elite. Their objective is nothing less than a government-created utopia in which everyone is equal. For them, this is a cause worth fighting for.

Of course, it is important to note that the majority of left-leaning Americans do not subscribe to these views, nor do they engage in violence. Unfortunately, many of their compatriots have no issue with using physical assaults to promote their agenda.

An Oppressor’s Revolution

Progressives view themselves as fighting for the “little guy.” They believe that they are engaged in a struggle against evil white men who possess incredible privilege and wealth. These supposed villains use their largesse to keep their boots firmly placed on the necks of the not-so-elite. However, it’s worth pointing out that the leftist penchant for violence actually places them in the role of oppressor.

It is an irony that is lost only on the far left. When a man kicks a woman for espousing pro-life views, he is not defending women’s rights; he is using oppression to force his beliefs on others. When Antifa violently attacks conservatives at pro-Trump rallies, they are not defending minorities, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community – they are preventing other Americans from exercising their right to freedom of expression.

But, in their view, people who support President Trump are somehow complicit in fascism, xenophobia, and other types of bigotry. They have convinced themselves that right-leaning Americans are an existential threat to the victims they claim to protect. This level of delusion did not exist even ten years ago, but over time, the far left has managed to work these people into a form of mass hallucination – one which casts anyone with whom they disagree as genuinely evil people. Indeed, a staffer working with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) recently published the addresses of three GOP lawmakers after the Kavanaugh hearing. It is not hard to imagine what a crazed progressive could potentially do with this information – but the person who did the doxxing didn’t seem to care.

Many on the far left have no intention to engage in political debate. They don’t want spirited conversations. They want compliance, plain and simple. They seek to impose a form of cultural totalitarianism that they are willing to enforce with violence. The type of government they wish to create is one that will ensure that all Americans are equally miserable, and they will do so by any means necessary. Fortunately, these individuals do not represent a major force in American politics – yet. It will take Americans on both the left and the right to prevent his movement from growing. Otherwise, the country may see the civil war that many have predicted.
